Elfreda Owens's family nominates her caregivers, Sammie Wright and Donna Hayden, for the care they gave through her stages of dementia. The two stayed with Elfreda through hospitalizations and rehab, took her to appointments, outings, and even her great-grandson's baseball games, and marked her birthdays and holidays to help her feel special. The family considers them an extended part of the family and says the care was never about the caregivers, but always about making sure Elfreda kept her dignity.
