Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is eligible for the Willow Award?

The Willow Award honors individuals and teams who demonstrate extraordinary compassion and care during end-of-life experiences, or loss. Nominees may include nurses, hospice professionals, physicians, first responders, chaplains, social workers, volunteers, and other caregivers. Eligibility is based on the difference they make, not their job title.

  • What makes the Willow Award unique?

The Willow Award is a one-of-a-kind recognition program dedicated to honoring extraordinary end-of-life caregivers. Unlike traditional awards that focus on professional achievements, the Willow Award celebrates the compassion, kindness, and personal connections that make a lasting difference for patients and families. With a growing national presence, the program shines a light on the often-unsung heroes who provide comfort and dignity during life's most difficult moments.

  • Are organizations eligible, or are awards limited to individuals?

The Willow Award honors both individuals and teams. Entire departments, healthcare units, and caregiving teams may be recognized when a nomination highlights their collective compassion and exceptional care. We believe extraordinary care is often a team effort, and we are proud to celebrate those who make a difference together.

  • What information is required for a nomination?

We ask for the caregiver’s or team’s name, workplace, and most importantly, your personal story. Tell us about the exceptional care and compassion they shared during your loved one’s end-of-life journey. Was there a special moment, a meaningful connection, a sweet nickname, or a way they went above and beyond to care for your loved one or family? It’s these heartfelt stories, big or small, that truly capture the spirit of the Willow Award. We also ask for your contact information in case we need to follow up.

  • Will I be notified if my nomination was selected?

Yes! If you submit your nomination online, you’ll receive an automatic email confirming that we’ve received it. Our committee will then carefully review your story and reach out if any additional details are needed. If you mail your nomination, a Willow Award team member will contact you by phone to confirm its arrival and discuss any additional information that may help us better understand your story.

  • When is the deadline to submit a nomination?

There is no deadline for submissions as The Willow Awards are given year round.
